Premature birth more dangerous for baby boys

Under certain conditions, premature birth can be fatal especially to little baby boys — they are more vulnerable than girls when they are born prematurely.

Birth to go even before pregnancy to 37 weeks entails some risks and complications including low blood pressure, stroke, respiratory failure and long-term disability can talk about neuro-cognitive. The risks are even higher as the baby is smaller, with even less than 28 weeks.

“We know that the danger is greater in what he terms the preterm boys than girls on, but I wanted to understand better what actually happens in the first days after birth, which are critical,” Emma Elsmén Steen, doctor in Lund University, Sweden.

After subjected to 200 premature observation of both sexes, the research team found that Swedish boys are sick in the first days than girls. They often need respiratory assistance even in the early hours, and interventions to stabilize blood pressure. Despite care, boys are more likely to remain with chronic lung disease.

Another study based on data collected nationwide, showed that unlike fetuses of females, males are more often associated with complications such as toxic pregnancy (preeclampsia), the accumulation of excess amniotic fluid, infection, separation of the placenta and premature loss of amniotic fluid.

One explanation put forward by researchers who began studies mentioned is that male fetuses mature more slowly than the female so that the birth prematurely is more likely to generate complications for them.

Because of the slow pace of development, they are unable to regulate blood pressure and did not manage as well as girls stress and inflammatory processes.
